QUEEN OF THE SOUTH booked their place in Europe yesterday - as UEFA booted out an SFA bid to avoid such a scenario happening again reports the DAILY RECORD

The First Division minnows will represent Scotland in next season's UEFA Cup even if they fail be beat Rangers in next month's Scottish Cup Final.

Queens will follow the likes of Gretna and Dunfermline into Europe on the back of making it to the showpiece.

SFA chief executive Gordon Smith was foiled in an attempt to block this scenario at the start of the season. And he revealed that Europe's football bosses look set to turn down his request for a change in the rules ahead of next season's cup campaign.

Smith said: "Regardless of the result in the Final, Queen of the South qualify for the UEFA Cup.

"I tried to change this when I came into the job. I felt we should look at the wider issue for the good of the Scottish game because our European coefficient is important.

"But it was too late to make the change and the news from UEFA is that there will be no change.

"They've decided to have a revamp of the competitions."

It is also expected that Palmerston Park,Dumfries will be the venue for Queens' historic European debut although the crowd will be restricted to 3509 all seated.
