Tennents Scottish Cup
It may be of interest to Queens fans but the last time we played the Dons in the Scottish Cup was in 1950 when we drew 3-3 at Palmerston after being 3-0 down. Queens won the replay at Pittodrie with Billy Houliston and Charlie Johnston getting the goals. On the 1st April Queens lined up against Rangers in the semi-final at Hampden in front of 55,000 fans with many Doonhamers making the trip from Dumfries. Queens were given no chance but led for most of the game through a wonderful goal by Jackie Brown. Queens were denied a final place by virtue of a freak goal when Rangers equalised in the second half. Roy Henderson in the Queens goal was confused by an awkward corner and the infamous Hampden swirl took the ball into the net. Rangers won the replay 3-0 and eventually won the final against East Fife. It was perhaps Queens greatest chance to win a major trophy. Roy Henderson's widow Jean is still an avid Queens supporter and can be seen at Palmerston on match days in her usual spot in the West Stand
