Second Half Lapse Hands Points To The Jags

Last updated : 09 December 2007 By Queens MAD

Total capitulation in the second period by an inept Queens team handed the initiative to a Thistle team after the Doonhamers had dominated a scrappy first half but had only one goal to show for it.

It was a dreadful afternoon for football as the teams kicked off in wet freezing conditions. Queens held the early initiative as both teams came to terms with the conditions. Dobbie fired Queens ahead on 13 minutes and very soon were on the prowl for more but much to the disappointment of the frozen Queens fans further goals just would not come despite some appalling finishing by Dobbie and McQuilken.

Half-Time : Queens 1 Thistle 0

At the start of the second half Thistle came more into the game and although not creating very much, you could see the panic signals in the Queens defence as the midfield sat in deep. It was no surprise when Thistle equalised on 63 minutes when a bad error by Thomson let in Buchanan who fired the ball into the net as Palmy held it's breath.

The game had been turned on it's head and the Thistle support erupted when Buchanan on 68 minutes got his head to a superb Storey corner to score what proved to be the winner.

Queens put on their subs in a vain attempt to scramble an equaliser but by this time the Doonhamers had been reduced to a disorganized rabble and a far from impressive Thistle team just could not beleive their luck and run out confortable winners much to the delight of their manager McCall who had to be restrained by police for his abusive language.

This result puts Queens in one hell of a hole which I doubt if we have the quality to dig ourselves out of. The midfield again misfired and our lack of pace on the flanks was cruelly exposed by a Thistle team who were far from impressive.

Next week's game at Stirling could decide whether we stay in the Division or not and with tough games also coming up against Dunfermline and Dundee it looks like a bleak festive season unless some of our senior players pull up their sleeves and get stuck in.

On a happier note congratulations to Andy Aitken on making his 300th appearance.

Queens MAD man of the match - Jim Thomson - about the best of a bad bunch.
