Ross County climbed further up the First Division and edged Queen of the South towards relegation trouble.
Sean Higgins broke the deadlock after just five minutes, running on to Craig Brewster's pass to slip a shot home.
Brewster doubled County's lead, cracking a tremendous drive into the roof of the net from 25 yards.
Queens pulled one back within a minute of the second half as Stephen Dobbie slammed in a drive, but the home side could not find an equaliser despite some late pressure.
This was another disappointing home defeat for Queens who simply didn't turn up for the first half. There was a distinct improvement in the second but with Queens chasing the game confident County
defence held out.
Queens are in desperate trouble and the hazardous trip to Firhill on Saturday is looming.
