RARE THOMMO STRIKE SINKS AYR

Queens seem to enjoy the sea air as they once again overcame Ayr for the second time this season. A healthy support from Dumfries had to endure a dour sruggle which was largelydominated by the Doonhamers in which the back four once again were simply outstanding with Thomson once again the main man. Ayr spurned numerous half chances before the big man popped up to score for Queens in 26th minute when he glided home McAlpine's well flighted free kick. I gather this was only Thommo's 5th goal for the club but what a valuable one. Ayr huffed and puffed and had their chances but Scott was more than able to handle anything they threw at him. The Queens style was to sit in deep and it worked perfectly and Queens held out comfortably until half-time.

Half-time Ayr 0 Queens 1

The second half was an untidy affair with Queens willing to sit back and keep Ayr at bay, which although not pleasant to the eye, worked perfectly. Ayr had no answer to a strong Queens back four and their only chance came when Whelan shot straight at Scott when in a good position. This was not very pleasant to watch but who cares as we have more or less guaranteed Ist Division football next season and maybe even a top five place is not beyond us. It is also worth noting that all this has been achieved with a part-time side. Our magnificent fans also give us an advantage over our rivals. The wonderful support at Ayr yesterday was much appreciated by the team and they responded accordingly.
This wonderful 1st Division adventure continues against Inverness Caley on Tuesday evening and the Highlanders will not be looking forward to facing us in our current mood.
