Rampant Queens Maul The Lions

QUEENS STORMED TO THE TOP OF DIVISION ONE AFTER A COMPREHENSIVE DEOMOLITION OF A TALENTED LIVINGSTON SIDE AT A WINDY AND WET PALMERSTON.

Queens tore straight into the visitors from the kick-off and very soon Dobbie Weatherston and Kean were causing havoc amongst the Livi ranks. In the the 3rd minute Palmy erupted when Dobbie took a through ball from Weatherston to place the ball into the corner of the net past a shocked Martini.

Queens went for the jugular and Dobbie who was causing mayhem picked up another through ball and rounded Martini to roll the ball into the net on 12 minutes. The sodden Queens support were now in full voice and the Railway Song was getting big licks.

Livingston however were still trying to play football and to their credit were taking the game to Queens and were rewarded on 25 minutes when MacKay curled a shot past Bell to give the visitors some hope. Livi however were still struggling to contain the power and enterprise of a Queens team in which MacFarlane,Dobbie and Weatherston were simply outstanding. Thomson and Company were also giving nothing away at the back and just before half-time the visitors suffered a mortal blow when Weatherston picked his spot after a Tosh free-kick was misjudged by the nervous Martini in the Livi goal.

Queens carried on where they had left off in the first-half and urged on by a baying Palmy crowd went out for more goals. Burns turned the Livi left flank inside out and his brilliant cross was met by Weatherston on 58 minutes who guided it past a bewildered Martin. The Portland Road end was now jumping as Queens continued to put the visitors through the mincer. Livingston were reduced to ten men on 74 minutes after Elliot was red carded. With Queens now in full cry Keane should have made it five before McQuilken on 75 minutes brought the house down with a screamer into the top corner.

Queens by now were knocking the ball around in great style against a Livi side who had long since thrown in the towel and the impressive Burns rubbed further salt into their gaping wounds when he ran through and place the ball past a demoralised Martini on 83 minutes.

This was by far Queens most impressive display of the season and we now look lke genuine contenders for the promotion. The Doonhamers simply did not have a failure and it was extremely difficult to pick man of the match. We can now look forward to our tough three game away schedule with confidence and with our strong pool of players I'm ver optimistic.

QueensMad man of the match - A difficult decision but the baby-faced asassin from Cumnock gets my vote - Paul Burns - he had an absolute stormer - defended well - ran the Livi left flank ragged and of course scored a goal and had a hand in another.
