Queens Stroll Past The Honest Men
Last updated : 30 August 2009 By Queens MAD
Goals from Willie McLaren and Rocco Quinn gave Queen of the South a comfortable home victory over Ayr as the Doonhamers share top spot in Division 1 after an impressive start to the season.
The Doonhamers dominated from the start as Derek Holmes and David Weatherston came close for the hosts before McLaren gave Queens a 45th-minute lead.
The midfielder responded quickly to convert the rebound after Weatherston's shot had been saved by Ayr goalkeeper Craig Samson.
The second half was a stroll for Queens as they created chance after chance against a harassed Ayr defence who lost former Queens player Aitken through injury.
Samson in the visitors goal saved his side time and again before McLaren set up Quinn to slot past Samson in the 63rd minute and secure the three points.
A comfortable win by an impressive Queens team who didn't have a failure but there may be concern amongst the faithful at the hatful of chances that were missed with Weatherston and Holmes amongst the sinners.
Queens MAD Man of the Match - David Lilley - The Queens captain led from the front and never allowed the Ayr forwards to get a sniff of a chance.
