Queen of the South's Championship match with Dundee United was abandoned at half-time, with the score at 0-0, because of a frozen pitch.
Referee Craig Thomson said: "At the start of the game, the pitch was in good condition but it started to get harder as the temperature dropped.
"A film of frost started to develop and a number of players expressed concerns about turning and stopping.
"I checked the pitch at half-time and I felt it would only have got worse."
Thomson added on BBC Radio Scotland's Sportsound: "The safety of players is paramount and it was not a great spectacle for spectators."
Earlier on Saturday, six Scottish Professional Football League games were postponed because of the cold weather.
