QUEENS MORE THAN MATCHED A BURNLEY TEAM BURSTING WITH EXPENSIVE PLAYERS AND THE DOONHAMERS FULLY DESERVED THE DRAW IN THIS ENTERTAINING FRIENDLY AT PALMERSTON.
The game kicked off in glorious sunshine in front of a crowd of over 1800 which included around 700 Burnley supporters who had made the long journey north.
Queens looked sharp and took the game to the Clarets and but for an inspired performance by Jenson in goal the Doonhamers would have been several goals to the good with Arbuckle twice and Barr going very close.
Burnley played some neat fooball but lacked punch and could make little impression on Jim Thomson and his resolute defence. However Queens defence was split just before the interval when Paterson raced through and scored from a tight angle giving the visitors a slightly flattering interval lead.
Queens continued to take the game to the visitors after the interval and started to create further chances with Arbuckle again missing an easy chance. Burnley had a chance to wrap it up but Paterson's effort just cleared the bar.
With time running out Queens laid seige to the Burnley goal and with only a few minutes remaining a Dobbie corner was glanced into the net by Kean to give the Doonhamers a richly deserved equaliser.
Queens turned in a very impressive performance against a quality Burnley side. The Doonhamers didn't have a failure and newcomers Arbuckle and McGowan looked the part. Bob Harris took a knock but is expected to recover ok.
In all a very enjoyable afternoons football and on this performance dare I suggest that perhaps Queens wont be far off the top of the league next Spring. The Burnley fans were also a credit to their club and mixed well the locals prior to kick-off.
It's the real thing next week at Berwick and I can't wait.
