Queens held a strong Newcastle side to a creditable draw in an entertaining but somewhat low key affair at Palmy yesterday. The Geordies had several fringe players together with some of their youth Academy but despite taking the lead found their part-time hosts a hot handful. Queens had new keeper Dodds in goal together with new signing Burke in striking role. There wre several other players on view which JC was having a look at before making a signing decision. The Geordies started off well and the Queens keeper was by far the busier. Dodds did indeed looks an impressive keeper and had to contend with a series of dangerous Newcastle raids. Queens new boys however were settling in and Burke should have done better than shoot straight at Collin when clean through. Newcastle took the lead 30th minutes when Ferrell took advantage of some slackness in the Queens reargurad to blast the ball high into the net past the helpless Dodds. The lead was short lived however as the impressive Paton drilled home a free-kick on the 33rd minute mark. The game was now more open but both defences held firm until the break.

Half-Time Queens 1 Newcastle X1 1
Both teams rang the changes in the second half as the game became purely a training exercise. Bagan came on for Queens and was unlucky when he hit the woodwork twice as Queens looked for the winner. Hodge making a welcome return to Palmy looked sharp with several impressive runs up the left. In the end both sides settled for a draw and Queens can be happy with their performance. Every one looks fit with Thomson and Aitken solid as a rock at the back. Gibson and Burke did well but we will have to sharpen up in front of goal. Paton was my Queens man of the match with a marvelous performance. We move on to Penrith on Wednesday where we hopefully can be amongst the goals to boost the team's confidence.
