Queens eased past a stuffy Stranraer side with room to spare and gain a place in the second round of the Scottish Challenge Cup.
Queens dominated from the start and it was no surprise when Lyle headed the opener from a Dowie assist. McGuigan came close for the Cleyholers but they rarely threatened as old hands Higgins and Dowie held things together at the back.
Queens continued to dominate in the second half but it was only a superb free-kick from Conroy near the end that settled the tie.
A fairly solid performance from Queens with Higgins,Dowie,Millar and Russell showing their experience.
It should be an intersting game at Annan next week where the locals had an impressive win over Airdrie
