Queens bounced back from Saturday's disappointment to comprehensively beat doomed Arbroath. JC freshened up the side with the return of Atkinson and a home debut for new boy Dawson. Queens were by far the more impressive side from the start and soon had the Arbroath keeper Hinchcliffe performing heroics to keep the score blank. O'Neill was having a stormer and was unlucky when his powerful drive came off the underside of the bar and the rebound was headed straight at the Arbroath keeper by O'Connor. After several near things Atkinson slung over a superb cross from a short corner in the 12th minute for
O'Neill to head past Hinchcliffe. The Red Lichites tried hard to get back in the game with Feroz causing a few anxious moments but Queens were well in control and for once the home faithful were having an enjoyable evening. O'Neill was tackled just as he was about to tap into an empty net after the Arbroath keeper had spilled a shot. Just before half-time
O'Connor increased Queens lead on 41 minutes when he rammed home after good work by Dawson. Queens were well worth their interval lead and perhaps should have been several more goals to the good.
Half-time Queens 2 Arbroath 0
Queens started off with a bang and with Paton taking a leading role laid seige to the Red Lichtes goal. Hinchcliffe the Atrbroath keeper was having a superb game and continued to frustrate the Queens attack. Arbroath came more into the game as an attacking force but the Queens defence even without Allen and Anderson were in superb form and held firm. Queens weathered the brief Arbroath counter attack and for the last half hour really pounded the Arbroath goal. Shot after shot rained in on the unfortunate Read Lichties keeper but Queens just could not find the net until the 79th minute when
O'Neill grabbed his second after a Lyle shot had rebounded from the keeper. Although this was not top quality oppostion,Queens looked much sharper than aginst St Mirren and the welcome three points surely means 1st Division football will prevail at Palmy next season. O'Neill, Paton and Mc Laughlan were superb along with Thomo and Aitken at the back. New boy Dawson played himself in quietly, never put a foot wrong and of course laid on O'Connor's goal.
