Lyle on target
again for Queens
Thistle's continued improvement saw them take all three points from this vital match.
Queens were first to show and opened the scoring with their first attack after four minutes. William Gibson was allowed to run unchallenged, and when he fired a 20-yard shot, Kenny Arthur could allow parry the ball into the path of the unrunning Derek Lyle who tapped home from five yards.

Thistle came back into the game and their first real chance fell after 11 minutes when Juan Ramon Escalas played in Ken Milne, but his shot hit the side netting.

Thistle drew level after 20 minutes when Escalas placed a pass to Billy Gibson, whose 18-yard yard shot was parried high into the air by Coin Scott and bundled home by Armand One from close range.

Thistle extended their lead after 35 minutes when a Derek Fleming free-kick was headed over his own keeper by David Craig, much to the delight of the home support.

The second half began with a flurry from Queens, and after 46 minutes Brian McLaughlin brought a good save out of Arthur, and four minutes later Gibson's shot also tested the keeper.

However, Thistle then began to dominate the game and were rewarded for their efforts in the 69th minute when they scored their third following a quick break from their own penalty area which culminated in Fleming's left-hand cross being headed in by Eric Paton for Queens' second own goal of the game.
