Queen of the South halted a run of four successive home defeats with this point gained in the 1-1 draw with Hamilton But it took them a long time to get to grips with the game, and if Hamilton had taken their early chances there would have been no comeback for the Dumfries side.
With a stiff breeze behind them Hamilton proved a hot handful for the Dumfries defenders from the start and deserved their breakthrough in 18 minutes.
They forced a corner on the left and Ryan Blackadder sent over a cross which the wind took away from keeper Colin Scott as he came out of his goal and the ball landed for Todd Lumsden to smash it home.
Blackadder then brought out a couple of saves from the Dumfries keeper as the wind took hold of two long range efforts which threatened to go in just under the bar.
Queens started the second half with a flourish as they went at the Hamilton defence and just when it looked as if they might break it down, they levelled the score in 57 minutes.
David McNiven was brought down on the edge of the box and he took the free-kick himself to send it through the wall and though keeper McEwan managed to get a hand to it he could only help it into the net.
Both sides had chances after that with Queens perhaps finishing the stronger, but neither could find a way to goal again.
