Last Gasp Equaliser Thwarts Queens

A hotly disputed last minute equaliser by Accies denied Queens victory in a hard fought encounter at Palmerston.

Queens Craig Reid
Queens were without Thomson and Harris due to suspension and injury respectively so the Doonhamers fielded Craig Reid alongside Andy Aitken with McQuilken and O'Neil filling in on the left flank.

The league leaders looked impressive in the early stages and the newlook Queens defence looked very uncomfortable against the powerful Ofiong. Accies took the lead on 22 minutes when Grady took full advantage of a poor clearance to beat MacDonald with a low drive. Queens looked a bit jaded at this stage but gradually weathered the storm and battled back into the game and were rewarded on 30 minutes when the Hamilton keeper spilled a McQuilken free-kick which the alert Dobbie stabbed home.

Queens were right back in the game and the Hamilton rearguard were starting to panic everytime Dobbie got the ball. Queens took the lead with a well crafted goal on 35 minutes when Dobbie grabbed his second after great work by McQuilken and O'Neill. Queens were now the dominant team and were well worth their narrow interval lead.

At the start of the second half Queens forced a series of corners as they looked for a third goal but somehow the Accies survived. The Accies were by no means out of the game and put Queens under some heavy pressure at times but Aitken and Reid held firm. A Tosh shot was then cleared off the line and Dobbie was clean through but the Hamilton keeper saved at his feet.

As the game approached it's final stages it looked as if Queens would hold out for another famous victory when right in the last minute Aitken seemed to be pushed in the back and McCarthy ran through to score. Queens players were incensed and Tosh was eventually sent off for a second yellow card after arguing with the referee. Needless to say the referee left the field to a chorus of abuse from the disappointed Queens fans who had seen victory snatched from them.

Queens had plenty of chances to bury Accies but at the end of the day perhaps the league leaders deserved a draw with a little help from the referee. Another impressive performance by Queens considering they were without Thomson and Harris. Craig Reid did very well and didn't let us down against a big powerful Hamilton side who took no prisoners.

With Thomson back Queens can look forward with confidence to next weeks Cup-Tie with Dundee. I can't wait.

Queens Mad man of the match - Neil MacFarlane - The big man was immense in the qualdron of the midfield and continually broke up the Accies attack and his telling passes forward should have produced more goals for Queens.
