FANS SUFFER AS QUEENS HELD TO BORING DRAW

THE KAISER CLEARS
A tired looking Queens were held to a goaless draw by relegation doomed Ayr in a shambles of a match where it was difficult to pick out an outstanding player. Right from the kick-off this match had goaless draw written all over it. Ayr looked the more likely side whereas Queens looked tired and jaded with even the reliable Bowey looking strangely subdued. Ayr had plenty of the ball but created very little although Thomson saved a certain goal hooking a Kean effort off the line. The Palmy crowd, several hundred down on the average tried hard to lift their favourites but Queens continued to struggle up front where O'Connor looked short of match fitness. The second half improved a little and Queens at last started to make and miss chances with Jaconelli coming the closest shooting into the side net when in a good position. Ayr forced several corners towards the end but Thomson and Company held firm. The match eventiually fizzled out and the referee put everyone out of their misery by blowing the final whistle but by that time most of the faithful had departed the scene. This really was desperate stuff for the fans and no one would have complained if Ayr had taken both points. Queens looked absolutely knackered after their trip to Kirkcaldy in mid-week and one will hope they bounce back against Clyde next Saturday.
