Stephen Dobbie scored a hat-trick as Queen of the South hammered Falkirk to move second in the Championship.

Falkirk 1  Queen of the South 4  HT: 0-2

The visitors took the lead within two minutes as Jason Kerr reacted first after the Bairns failed to deal with a corner.

Dobbie finished off a sweeping move to make it 2-0 before the break and added a cracking third after the interval.

He made it 4-0 from the spot after Lyndon Dykes was brought down, with Lucas Gasparotto replying late on.

The win takes Queens second in the table on nine points, while Falkirk are second from bottom with one point from four games.

Post-match reaction

Falkirk manager Peter Houston: "I said last week's defeat at Dunfermline was the worst since I came in as manager because they worked harder than us and were hungrier, I think we just surpassed that today.

"We say at half time score the next goal because 2-0 is a funny score, the players are lacking in confidence for some reason and within four or five minutes of the second half we are 4-0 down and looking as if, rather than us getting back into it, it becomes more embarrassing. I take responsibility for that. It doesn't help we have about five out with injury but this team that was put out today was good enough to give Queen of the South a game and maybe win it.

"I think we need to (add to the squad). I'm waiting on an answer (from the board), I think defensively we are short. We need to add I think a couple of defenders but I need to wait and see if I'm going to get that money."

Queen of the South manager Gary Naismith: "I'm really delighted with the players and I think we will be hard pushed to beat that away performance for the rest of the season. We controlled the game nearly from start to finish. We created a lot of chances and looked really dangerous on the break and kept Falkirk at bay.

"We have scored goals at perfect times and took the sting out of the game. A very pleasing day's work for us."
