Dobmeister Brace Sinks The Dees

Stephen Dobbie's brace gave Queen of the South a deserved 3-1 win over high-flying Dundee in a bruising encounter at Palmerston

Queens looked to have a European hangover as the visitors made the brighter start and opened the scoring in the 14th minute through Chris Pozniak. The Doonhamers however eventually found their feet and started to ask questions of an away defence who were having problems holding O'Connor and Dobbie

Queens deservedly equalised after 27 minutes when Craig Barr finished off his own powerful run. Queens were now in full flight and it was no surprise when Dobbie swept the ball into the net on 44 minutes after great work by O'Connor on the right

The Dees tried desperately to get back into the game in the second half and with Queens sitting deep applied quite a bit of pressure but the Home Defence supebly led by Jim Thomson held firm. Queens were also extremely dangerous on the break with Dobbie almost getting his second goal with a superb lob.

Queens new signing Weatherstone was showing up well on the left and Dobbie grabbed the third goal on 68 minutes when the winger cut the ball back after a superb run. The game was virtually over but there was still work to be done and the Queens defence had to endure several anxious moments before the points was won.

This was an impressive win for Queens against a more than useful Dees side who most certainly will be in the mix when promotion is decided in the Spring. Queens new signings Parratt and Weatherstone showed up well with the latter showing terrific pace.

It's Ross County at Palmy on Wednesday and a further win for the Doonhamers will put them right up with the leaders.
