Dees Steal The Points At Palmy

DUNDEE snatched all three points to move off the bottom of the First Division for the first time since being docked 25 points by the SFL, as they were outplayed in virtually all departments, except the one that mattered most - in front of goal.

Dens boss Barry Smith said: "It's a great three points after being battered for most of the match. They had the majority of the play and played better than us."

Queen's put their off-field financial worries behind them and created four excellent opportunities in the opening exchanges. After just four minutes Ryan McGuffie hit the side-netting when he should have scored.

Two minutes later Paul Burns tested Dundee goalkeeper Robert Douglas with a low 18-yard drive, before Allan Johnston had a 15-yard angled drive saved.

Dundee offered very little and Queen's created another opening in 31 minutes. Colin McMenamin was the provider but Willie McLaren, completely unmarked, headed over from 12 yards.

Dundee opened the scoring after 35 minutes. Nicky Riley played the ball wide to Tom Brighton, whose cross from the right was knocked on by Gary Harkins for Craig Forsyth to drill the ball low under goalkeeper David Hutton from 15 yards.

Queen's were level in 61 minutes when McGuffie powered a header past Douglas after McLaren's free-kick from the left.

Dundee got the winner 13 minutes from time when Sean Higgins spectacularly volleyed the ball home from 16 yards after Riley's initial shot had been blocked.

Higgins said: "I owed the guys one after being stupidly red-carded against Dunfermline."

Queen's manager Kenny Brannigan said: "Their first goal was a bit dubious and, apart from the two goals, they had nothing of the game."

Queens MAD man of the Match - Craig Reid had a solid game at the back.
