Classic Smash And Grab Act At Palmy

Sean Higgins' stoppage-time strike earned Cowdenbeath a valuable Scottish Championship win at Palmerston

Queens started the match brightly and a stunning strike from John Baird was kept out by an equally impressive diving save by Robbie Thomson.

The hosts had several chances to go ahead but the visitors took the lead just before half-time, Callum Gallagher taking advantage of hesitancy in the home defence to slot home.

Queens bombarded  Cowdenbeath in the second half and the visitor's goal lead a charmed life until Derek Lyle headed the hosts level but as Queens pressed forward Higgins got the better of Zander Clark one-on-one to seal Cowden's victory.

This was a classic smash and grab act by the Fifers who stuck to their game plan, rode their luck and nicked the points at the death. Queens created enough chances to win several matches but with two key players missing it was not to be.

Manager Fowler's managerial skills will be tested as Queens head for another potential banana skin at Alloa next week.
