BIG SEAN SINKS THE COUNTY

Queens played their last game of the season and finished on a winning note but to be honest they should have won by a lot more against a disappointing County. Queens started off well and had trhe Highlanders defence in a right pickle. The choice of playing Mc Alpine and Paton at full-back was reaping dividends but Queens old failing in front of goal reared it's ugly head. Weatherson should have had a couple and as County sensed they had a chance the reliable Scott in the Queens goal made several telling saves. A goal had to come for Queens and O'Connor did the honours in the 31st minute latching on to a long ball and placing the ball behind Bullock in the County goal. Queens started to dominate for long periods but lacked the cutting edge. The influential Irvine nearly equalised for County just before the break but Scott made a fine save. The half ended with County rather fortunate to be only one goal down.

Half-Time Queens 1 Ross County 0

County's influential captain Irvine did not appear for the second half as Queens surged forward in search of goals. The County goal had numerous narrow escapes as Queens tried to finish off the match. Bowser had terrible luck when his effort bounced off the bar with Bullock nowhere. County tried hard to make a game of it but Thomson was his usual dominant self at the back. Young Gibson came on towards the end but try as they may Queens could not get the second goal and the game was quietly played out as the disappointed County fans drifted away. As the Queens team left the field they were given a tremendous ovation by the 1800 crowd on a thoroughly successful season.
