BATTLING DOONHAMERS BULLY THE CLYDE
Half-Time
Queens 2 Clyde 1
Clyde came out of the starting blocks well and started to dictate things as Queens lay deep. The Bully Wee however continually came up against Thomson and Reid who were in outstanding form. Scott was busy without being in much danger and with the Queens midfield working like terriers the Doonhamers weathered the storm and gradually began to hit the harassed Clyde defence on the break who had to resort to some dubioius taclkling at times to keep their goal intact. Burke was a constant menace to Clyde and on the hour mark he forced the Clyde goalkeeper into making some awful mistakes which were punished. On 64 minutes Burke somehow got behind the Clyde defence and placed the ball in the net after a horrendous error by the poor Clyde goalkeeper. 5 minutes later Burke did the same thing and turned the ball into the net from an acute angle as the red-faced Clyde goalie looked on. The Queens fans were now giving it fthe full wellie as the strains of "Dodgy keeper" rang out from the Glasgow Street end. Queens were slightly flattered by the two Burke goals but justice was done as Clyde should have been several goals down by half-time. Make no mistake this was a wonderful victory by Queens over a big physical Clyde team. Queens team work rate was absolutely outstanding with Bowey leading by example. Once again I was disappointed with the attendance of 1953. Surely this marvelous Queens team who are now sitting second in the league deserve better support than this. The surprisingly large well behaved Clyde support shouldn't be too diaappointed as their team will be up with the leaders come springtime. Meanwhile the Queens bandwagon rolls on to Glebe Park next week where Brechin will not relish the visit of the mighty Doonhamers on this form.
