Queen of the South will never have a better chance of lifting the Scottish Cup at Hampden on Saturday when they line up against a Rangers team who have had a punishing fixture schedule over the last few weeks.
To compound an already difficult situation the Ibrox side will be without their talisman striker Novo who was unfortunately red-carded last night at Pittodrie and will miss the final. Having surrendered the SPL title to Celtic , Walter Smith will have some work cut out to motovate an obviously demoralised squad. The Ibrox boss however has a strong pool of players and Queens will have a momentous task in gaining any success and much will depend how Queens' defence cope with the pace of the Premier League side.
Jim Thomson and his troops must concentrate and cut down errors or else it's curtains as Rangers have players like Darcheville,Cousin and Boyd who feed off slips in defence.
Of course Rangers' strength lies in their defence but as demonstrated last night at Pittodrie they can be opened up and this is where O'Connor and Dobbie will hope for success. We also have our match winning hero in Stewart who will definitely feature at some stage.
Queens are quite capable of competing in midfield with Tosh,McFarlane,Burns and McQuilken expected to give Rangers a few problems.
It should be a fascinating contest with perhaps Rangers power winning in the end but I certainly would not write off Queens especially if Dobbie or Stewart are in the mood.
There are no injuries reported from the Queens' training ground and everyone is fit and raring to go.
It should be an unforgetable day out for the fans and if we manage to lift the Cup there will be the Mother of all parties in Dumfries on Saturday evening.
COME ON YOU QUEENS |
