Scottish FA dish out increased level of club funding

The Scottish Football Association has announced an increased raft of funding for member clubs, with £1.7m being doled out over the festive period.

The 30 clubs involved in the Club Academy Scotland (CAS) programme will share £1m, while £500,000 will be distributed among all licensed clubs.

A further £200,000 goes to a new community fund set up to assist grassroots development.

Internationals with Ireland and England have helped swell the SFA coffers.

The payments for CAS will reflect the levels of investment in youth development programmes and clubs' successes in promoting young players to their first teams.

The £1m CAS funds represent a near 50% increase, while the shared pot of £500,000 is double what was on offer last year.

"The Scottish FA expects to record healthy year-end figures, largely due to important commercial sponsorship and television deals but also as a result of the recent challenge match against England," said chief executive Stewart Regan.

"Given that the governing body exists to promote, foster and develop the game of football it is important that profits are reinvested in the game, especially in the current financial climate.

"The additional funding has been allocated within Club Academy Scotland and Club Licensing, two areas of the game that might not get the recognition they deserve externally but are intrinsic to our collective effort to improve standards on and off the pitch.

"I would like to thank the members involved in both programmes for their efforts this year and it is intended that the additional revenue will enable them to continue to build towards a more prosperous future."
