THERE will be a queue of out-of-work managers desperate to take up the vacant positions at Motherwell and Dundee United.
But the job description should come with a warning of the Hotline abuse that comes with being a manager in Scottish football.
They were all getting it in the neck yesterday and it makes you wonder why anyone would want to be a boss in this country.
Craig Barnett, Fife, said: “Scottish football is loaded with poor managers – Jackie McNamara, Gary Locke, Alan Stubbs. And the fact ex-players like Stephen Craigan are being touted as replacements is just comical.”
Someone got out of bed on the wrong side.
McNamara followed Ian Baraclough in losing his job as they became the first two gaffers axed this season but some had sympathy for the United boss
John Grant, Glasgow, said: “Will the next Dundee United manager be advised that all his best players will be sold to Celtic?”
Rab McCallum, Dundee, said: “Stephen Thompson is the cause of all Dundee United’s problems. Jackie McNamara made a few mistakes and one of the biggest was making Sean Dillon captain.
“He has caused so many of the goals this season. I want Jim McIntyre as boss now.”
Mark Warburton was unhappy at the criticism that followed his side’s first defeat of the season when they went down 3-1 to St Johnstone in the League Cup.
The Englishman claimed a lot of it was disrespectful but Joe Kane, High Blantyre, said: “I enjoy listening to Warburton but he is the one being disrespectful to the media with his comments.
“His side’s frailties were shown up by a well-organised and experienced team with a good
manager and that’s all that was pointed out.
“He thought the reaction was over the top but are you not allowed to analyse?
“The Rangers fans I speak to have been worried for weeks about the defence. They conceded three goals that could have been avoided. Warburton has had plenty of praise so they must take the criticism.
“St Johnstone at 7-2 was the bet of the year.”
Rangers bounced back with a 4-0 win over Morton on Sunday and Jim Nichol, Armadale, said: “No doubt Mr Warburton will be gloating about Rangers’ great (average) win over part time opponents Morton but it doesn’t disguise the fact they failed miserably against top-flight opposition.
“He needs a reality check. Rangers are a long way off Scottish Premiership standard.”
Warburton’s Old Firm counterpart also came under fire. George Wilson, West Sussex, emailed: “I’m a Rangers fan so I’m biased but the nonsense Ronny Deila comes out with is unbelievable.
“To say Celtic could win every league game from now on and possibly the quadruple just left him open to ridicule. And to say it’s acceptable for his captain to be found drunk in an alley in cup final week is incredible.
“He won’t last. Celtic have totally failed to capitalise on four years without Rangers who are slowly on the way back.
Deila is still looking to sign free agent Carlton Cole but John Caw emailed: “Cole might be a good penalty-box player but never a footballer. Deila and Mikael Lustig obviously haven’t watched him much.
“If you want an ex-Hammer then sign Frank McAvennie because he’s only 55 and would still
score goals.”
Eddie Easson, Ballingry, said: “Celtic must get Carlton Cole signed. It’s an alarming statistic that they haven’t converted from 51 crosses.”
Michael Sheerin, Liverpool, said: “I would like to see Celtic sign Cole. They need him big time.
“What happens if Leigh Griffiths gets injured? I have no belief in Nadir Ciftci.
“Celtic should try Griffiths and Stokes up front in a 4-4-2. They also need to find a role for Scott Allan and get Stuart Armstrong back.”
