Raith Rovers oppose plans to admit newco Rangers in first division
..Reports the Daily Record
RAITH ROVERS directors say they will oppose any move for league reconstruction which would result in the newco Rangers joining division one.
The Kirkcaldy club released a statement this morning in which they said they were fully behind efforts to shake up the game north of the border - but would not support a deal which "compromises sporting integrity".
It comes just days after Falkirk chairman Martin Ritchie said it is unacceptable for Rangers to waltz straight into the top tier of the SFL.
The Ibrox club look increasingly likely to be barred from entering the SPL next season with six clubs already saying they will vote against the newco joining them at the top table.
A 75 per cent majority is needed for SFL clubs to pass any resolution but any move to install newco Rangers in the first division is already meeting strong opposition.
A statement from the Raith board read: "Raith Rovers FC continues to closely monitor developments in the saga of who will replace the liquidated Rangers within Scottish football.
"As proud members of the Scottish Football League, we may soon be called upon to consider proposals for the way forward not only in relation to any vacancy that may arise in our league but also in respect of the future construction of the game in Scotland.
"Whilst we retain an open mind on the subject of league reconstruction, and will carefully consider any proposal put to us by the SFL board in this regard, the board of directors of Raith Rovers FC is unanimous in its view that we shall certainly not cast our vote in favour of any integrated plan that in our view compromises sporting integrity by involving the admission of any 'Newco' directly into Division One."
