Queens stumbled to another Cup exit at the hands of Clyde in the eerie atmosphere of an almost empty Broadwood. Even a sizeable, noisy away Queens support could not lift Gordon Chisolm's team as they failed misearbly to break down a tight Clyde defence. The first half was a pretty scrappy affair with Clyde taking the lead from a Masterton free-kick in the 13th minute after Queen's defender McGowan was penalised on the edge of the box. It was another controversial decision by the referee, one of many that have gone against us in recent matches. Dobbie again looked out of touch and missed a great chance to put Queens level. As it was Clyde were worth their slender interval lead.
Queens Suffer Another Cup Exit
Half- Time: Clyde 1 Queens 0
The second half was slightly better as Clyde sat in and Queens pressed for an equaliser. Bingham went very close and a Tosh piledriver struck the underside of the bar and bounced clear. Clyde were restricted to the odd breakaway as they continued to frustrate Queens and the visitors could have been further embarrassed but for some sound defending. Queen's manager Chisolm threw on his subsitutes in a desperate attempt to salvage something but once again, similar to Methil we were unable to break down a tight defence.
It has been a disappointing week or so for Queens, eliminated from two cup competitions and losing to Dundee in the league. All the games have been tight and the result could have gone either way. I still remain optomistic and bearing in mind the quality we have in our squad, results will surely come although many disappointed Queens supporters at Broadwood are having second thoughts on the coaching prowess of Gordon Chisolm and his assistant Mr Brannigan.
Their questions will be answered as Queens take on Hamilton in another tough one on the plastic at New Douglas Park on Saturday
