Queens Agm 2010 Full Report

Last updated : 30 March 2010 By Queens MAD

Queen's Chairman David Rae opened the meet at 1930 in front of over 90 shareholders. He reflected on a disappointing 2008/2009 season which was down to mainly an early exit from both Cup Competitions and injuries to key players. A subsequent loss of revenue due to a fall in attendances,Loss of rent from Tescos, rising operating costs, high medical expenses and an increase in player's salaries at the request of Gordon Chisolm contributed to the club making a substanciial loss for the financial year ending 2009. Mr Rae however stated that the club was still in the black and had no Bank overdraft. The club had looked into Insurance for injuries to players but the costs involved were prohibitive. Mr Rae said the club is looking to the future partnership with DGHP and hopeful that Queens will receive an income from such a venture in the future. Mr Rae also thanked the help received from volunteers throughout the season. William J. Hewitson and Colin Rutherford were re-appointed as directors. Mr Rae also welcomed Kenny Brannigan as the interem manager of Queens and thanked Gordon Chisolm for his services to the club.

The Board were then open to questions from the floor. Here are a few bits of information gleaned from the debate:

Queens received compensation from Dundee for Gordon Chisolm - Contingency plans have been made if Queens gain entry to the SPL namely temporary seating, posssible groundshare and fitting of undersoil heating - The proposed re-development of Palmy in partnership with DGHP will not involve any Queens money and Queens will still own Palmerston - The Old Tesco store will be demolished - Speculation about a Bowling Alley,Multiplex Cinema and housing are untrue - There will be additional car parking - Team will continue to train in Glasgow - A request for signage to be fitted on roads leading to Palmerston will be looked into - 10 players have been signed for new season - Sean O'Connor was approached by Annan and Dundee for signing talks but he declined.

At 2011 Mr Rae introduced Queen's interim manager Mr Kenny Brannigan to the shareholders and questions were invited from the floor. There followed a lively debate and here are some of the highlights:

Kenny is attack minded and is comfortable with a 3-5-2 formation - Kenny not a great lover of the press - He is enjoying his new job and if all goes well will sit down with Mr Rae in the summer with a view to taking on the job on a more permenant basis. - Poor performances by Referees due to lack of communication with players - The advantage of Queens players training in Glasgow is that they can attract more players from the Central Belt - Would like to see more players from Dumfries coming through - Players had respect for Gordon Chisolm and his departure was amicable - Kenny has been 28 years in coaching and actually signed David Weatherston whilst managing at Queens Park - If Kenny is appointed manager for next season he will bring in his own Assistant Manager - Kenny not impressed with the attitude of young players coming into the game. He considers most not hard enough and lack ambition - Issues with players not always happy to sign autographs from fans at back of Palmy after games will be looked at.

There was a long debate on the merits of individual players, details of which, after careful thought I have left to others to filter through to the Message Board. Queens have a happy squad and there are no bad eggs - Kenny stated he would never sign any troublemakers.

Mr Brannigan was in a confident mood and impressed the shareholders with his wide knowledge of the game.

Mr Rae closed the meeting at 2100 hours.
