QUEENS LOGO 1QUEENS manager Gus MacPherson is eyeing up a couple of additions to his squad....Reports the Dumfries and Galloway Standard.

The Doonhamers are currently bottom of the league and MacPherson revealed that the Palmerston club has “made enquiries” about the availability of a few players.

He said: “You are always looking to strengthen your squad and we are no different.

“Obviously we are a bit restricted with the club’s financial situation but we are still looking to strengthen where we can.

“We need to make sure that if the opportunity becomes available that we are ready to bring the right players in.

“We have made enquiries about a couple of players so we just need to wait and see how things pan out.

“These enquiries have most likely joined a long list.

“We are always looking at players, as any managers would, and we are also looking to give the young players their chance too.

“The club is not in a position to dictate negotiations so we will just need to make sure that we are patient and go about things in the correct way.”

MacPheron’s side dropped to bottom place after Boxing Day’s 1-0 defeat to Partick Thistle at Firhill.

A Kris Doolan header early in the second half sealed the win for the Jags and the Palmerston manager was disappointed at his players’ reaction to going behind.

He said: “It was a very tight game, with nothing between the sides and both us and Partick had some good chances in the first half.

“It was a poor goal to concede which came after another mistake from one of our players.

“The heads went down after this which gave Partick an evident boost.”

Queens player Stephen McKenna was hooked off at half time but MacPherson insists it was to spare the midfielder a red card.

He explained: “We decided to bring Stephen off at half time for the benefit of both himself and the team.

“He had picked up a booking in the first half we couldn’t take the risk of going down to ten men and having a player banned for this weekend.”

Hamilton Accies travel to Dumfries on Monday looking to bounce back after an extremely poor run of form.

Billy Reid’s side are without a win in five games – losing four – and have conceded 11 goals in a barren run that has seen the Lanarkshire outfit drop down the table.

And while he is positive that the Accies will be out to bounce back, MacPherson is positive about his side’s chances.

He said: “This is a game that I am really looking forward to.

“We have the opportunity to close the gap and go level on points with Hamilton with a win and we are very keen to do just that.

“We need to get back to the level of performances at home that we saw against Morton and Hamilton earlier in the season.

“If we do that then I am very confident that we can get the win and hopefully lift ourselves up the table.”

MacPherson added: “Hamilton have went through a bit of a bad spell recently but they will looking to recover from that.

“They will be hurting and Billy said after their defeat to Livingston on Monday that they didn’t deserve to lose the game.

“It is always difficult for the team dropping down from the SPL as they are often expected to bounce straight back and maybe that has affected them.

“But we know how difficult it will be for us on Monday.

“Hamilton may have had a few bad results lately but they are a top team with a great blend of youth and experience.

“Guys like Martin Canning, Mark McLaughlin and Dougie Imrie bring a lot to the side and then there is Alan Combe who Billy has just signed recently.”
