MacPherson and assistant Andy Millen has told fans that they were up for the challenge the job brought.... reports the Dumfries and Galloway Standard.
And MacPherson admitted he knows how important it is that he makes the right signings.
He said: "We can't afford to make many mistakes when we are recruiting these players at the moment. We have got to try and get a very high percentage of it right because there won't be a lot to fall back on in terms of making mistakes. So in that short period we've got to get most of it right."
The new boss also called for the fans to show their backing during the tough times ahead, and urged them not to criticise the players.
He said: "It is the easiest thing in the world to be negative and criticise. But it does not help.
"You will be amazed at the effect the support can have on the team."
He added: "If you are there in numbers and being positive and getting behind them in difficult times, then the players feed off that.
"If the fans are in there early and generating a feel-good factor, and the club must play a part in that too, it works both ways.
"It translates onto the pitch."
