I'M finally getting around to having my say on James Fowler's Queen of the South departure.
I think it was tough on the former Killie favourite. His squad showed on Saturday just how good they can be as they mauled Livi 3-1 at Palmerston. A Lions team fighting for their Championship survival.
That was Fowler's team with four of the best five players on the park being his signings.
He was unlucky to lose two of them (Dale Hilson and Callum Tapping) for most of the season and that has no doubt made a difference to the stuttering Dumfries outfit.
Another signing, Jordan Marshall, plucked from obscurity after being released by Carlisle, won most supporters club's player of the year award at just 19-year-old.
Yet some say his signings have been failures. Yes, some like Ryan Conroy and Kyle Jacobs have failed to show anything near their best but both were worth the gamble last summer. Others like Robbie Thomson, Kyle Hutton and Mark Millar have been solid performers.
He lost 14 first team stars in the summer and the Palmerston side could still finish fifth after Saturday's win...
I'm not privy to all goings on behind closed doors but I felt the hard-working gaffer deserved a summer to fine-tune his squad and have a crack at the play-off's again next year - with a settled squad this time.
No matter who gets the the Queens job now - they'll undoubtedly have Fowler to partly thank for any future success.
