THE FUTURE OF QUEENS PLAYERS WHOSE CONTRACTS RUN OUT AT THE END OF THE MONTH IS UNCERTAIN .... reports the Dumfries and Galloway Standard.
Doonhamers favourite Paul Burns looks set to leave the club having been given no assurances about the club's or his manager's future and was offered a contract on less money than last season. This is a big blow to the fans and also to Burns himself who will probably miss out on a lucrative testimonial match. Burns agent Jim Harkins is less than happy with the treatment of the player after the many years of service he has given the club.
Meanwhile Willie Mclaren,Derek Holmes and David Lilley have all been released by the club. All three were believed to be high earners but one begs the question whose decision was it to release them ? Is Kenny Brannigan still in charge or was this a board decision ?
McLaren and Holmes to be honest rarely produced the goods however David Lilley can consider himself unlucky having been dogged all season from an injury sustained at Gretna in a pre-season friendly.
Earlier in the week Colin McMenamin signed a two year contract with 1st Division rivals Ross County. This was no great surprise and the 30 year old striker jumped at the chance and we wish him well.
In a letter to the Dumfriies and Galloway Standard a fan sums things up well ...
I have no desire to criticise the directors, as I'm sure they get enough of that, but they really need to act now and if they already have a plan in progress it wouldn't do any harm to share the broad outline to fans.
