EVENTS AT DUNDEE AND DINGWALL LAST NIGHT COULD HAVE A HUGE BEARING ON QUEEN'S FIRST DIVISION SURVIVAL

Brian Reid last night took injury-hit Ayr all the way to Dundee – then admitted it was a blessing in disguise when the game was called off.

Floodlight failure put an end to the First Division clash just 15 minutes before kick-off.

A handful of Ayr fans had made their way into the ground as Reid put his players through their pre-match warm-up – but it was all in vain. The Ayr boss said: “We only had 14 or 15 players and couldn’t even fill our bench.

“There is maybe someone looking down on us because we’ve not had the best of luck in terms of injuries and suspensions.

“We’re obviously disappointed to be up here and ready to play.

“But I feel for the fans. We have players who are part-time and rely on their bosses to get time off. Now they will have to ask for it again. But it’s no-one’s fault and we won’t blame Dundee.”

Dens Park operations manager Jim Thomson explained the floodlight control mechanism had developed a problem.

He said: “We had to make a decision sooner rather than later based on health and safety.”

Fans who paid in – and kept their receipt – will have free entry to the rearranged clash.

Meanwhile at Dingwall DEREK ADAMS insists Ross County were victims of a refereeing blunder after Morton pulled off the unlikeliest of comebacks.

But the Victoria Park gaffer refused to criticise whistler Craig Charleston for the split-second decision to hand Ton a penalty three minutes into injury time.

Leading 2-0 entering the final stages the Highland high-flyers looked set to open up a 14-point gap at the First Division summit.

However, Archie Campbell and former Queens' favourite Peter Weatherson struck a small dent in the cushion County craved ahead of Saturday’s visit of closest rivals Falkirk.
