A member of the consortium behind a proposed purchase of the majority shareholding at Queen of the South says his group have the best interests of the club at heart... reports STV
The English-based party have been in discussions to purchase David Rae’s 30% stake in the First Division club, with a bid expected imminently.
Businessman John Harrison, who STV can reveal as the chief executive of Media Pro Sports, the company behind the bid, says their desire is to provide funding for the club but not overhaul its current operation.
“We hope to be in a position to make a bid for Mr Rae’s shares in the next few days,” Harrison said. “If we are successful, we intend to inject a six figure sum into the club immediately.
“Our intention is not to interfere with the day-to-day running of the club. We would nominate a director to represent our affairs.
“The club is in a stable position and it would be our intention to maintain that. An injection of cash is needed to challenge for honours and that is what we wish to provide.”
Mystery has surrounded the identities of those involved in the bid, which first came to light on Friday afternoon.
“We are an events promotion company with expertise in sport within our group. All of the funds being put forward would come direct from those in the consortium and we would not intend to borrow against the club.”
