Battered Reid Wants Ayr To Bounce Back

Brian Reid wants Ayr to bounce back from their Tuesday night horror at Dens.

And he insists fans can play a crucial part on Saturday when they head to Queen of the South in a relegation crunch.

A win will push Ayr nine points clear of basement team Queens and hopefully pull further clear of Raith who head to runaway leaders Ross County.

Ayr are licking their wounds after a 4-1 defeat by Dundee, compounded by two injury time goals hit on the break.

Eddie Malone and Michael McGowan are banned for the trip to Palmerston while Liam Tomsett, who missed Tuesday with a calfstrain, should be back after a week’s treatment at Blackpool.

Martyn Campbell, who was in Newcastle on work commitments, also returns.

Reid claimed: “We battered Dundee for long stages and had more than double their chances.

“We outplayed them for long spells but a combination of careless finishing, good goalkeeping and not being clinical enough cost us dearly.

“On another day, we could have scored three or four but the first two goals we lost were poor from balls over the defence.

Reid, who praised the fans for their loud backing at Dundee, reckons they can be the team’s extra man at Palmerston.
