AMBITIOUS PLANS BY QUEENS TO REPLACE THE PALMERSTON TURF WITH A 3G SURFACE .. reports the Dumfries and Galloway Standard.
Queen of the South will find out on Tuesday if councillors back their ambitious plans.
If they agree the council will fork out £225,000 towards the cost, which would need to be matched by SportScotland. The club itself would contribute £60,000.
Queens chairman Billy Hewitson believes an artificial pitch would be a huge boost to the club financially. "It would also help our community involvement and even get the first team back training in the town more regularly. It will bring great benefits and the piches are getting better and better. Financially and commercially it is the right decision."
"Added to the indoor facility which we hope to build,it would bring us geat flexibility."
He also allayed fans' fears regarding rules against non-graa pitches in Scotland's top flight. Mr Hewitson added "We are led to believe at this time in the process of league reconstruction that there will be no rules against artificial piches in the SPL should the plans go through."
