Queens boss Gary Naysmith admits his side need to start winning games and soon.
The Doonhamers have now gone 12 league fixtures without recording a victory – four since Naysmith took charge earlier this month.
The Palmerston club now sit just two points above tomorrow’s visitors Ayr United who occupy the relegation play-off spot.
Naysmith told Standard Sport: “The games are all tough at this level whether you’re on a winning run or a losing run.
“But we know we need to get a win sooner rather than later.
“We’ll keep working hard and the players will hopefully keep buying in to what we’re trying to do. We need to find a way to get that win.”
The two sides have met twice this season with Queens losing out 1-0 at Somerset Park in October having beaten the Honest Men 4-1 at home in August.
Ian McCall’s Ayr have lost their last seven matches in Dumfries but Naysmith knows you don’t win games without scoring goals or when you're leaking them at the other end.
“We’ve watched the two previous Ayr games back and done our research but, with all due respect to Ayr, it’s more about what we can do.
“We need to better in every area and we need to take our chances which we didn’t do at Morton. Off the top of my head we had three decent second half chances and one of them has to go in.
“We also gave away a soft goal which ultimately cost us the game.”
The Doonhamers will struggle on with the same threadbare squad which lost 1-0 at Cappielow on Christmas Eve.
The former Scotland international hopes to add three or four players to his squad in January but has also rewarded academy prospect Owen Bell with a new deal keeping him in Dumfries until May, 2018. The 17-year-old midfielder from New Abbey impressed his manager in training and came off the bench last weekend.
